6 Ways to Use Spaghetti Squash in Desserts

Whether it’s your diet-obsessed aunt or that annoying friend who does Crossfit, there’s no denying you’ve heard about the wonders of spaghetti squash. And while you’ll never convince us it tastes anything like pasta (seriously, it doesn’t), we don’t hate the stringy gourd as a healthier alternative to wheat flour or semolina.

As fall begins to change the leaves and the preferences of our palates, we’ve found a more interesting way to incorporate spaghetti squash into our diets: dessert. From muffins and pie to cakes and international specialties, there’s a way to highlight the squash’s earthy fall flavors beyond tomato sauce and cheese. Scroll down to check them out!

Muffins

Crossfit SL

Do you know the muffin man? If you do, he probably doesn’t have a batch of these heart-healthy delights made with almond meal, apples, and a very ripe banana. You should share the recipe. Get it here.

Kheer

My Heart Beets

You don’t have to travel to India for this ghee-based dessert where cardamom is the star. Top it with slivered almonds and golden raisins for a morning treat that puts oatmeal to shame. Get the recipe.

Kugel

Cara’s Cravings

Say shalom to this sweet version of a Jewish classic. It will be your new favorite post-fast Yom Kippur tradition. (That and challah, of course. We’re not sure anything can take the place of fluffy bread). Get the recipe.

Pie

Food for a Hungry Soul

Thanks to the presence of coconut, this will certainly be the most polarizing option on this list. But if you can stomach the tropical fruit, spaghetti squash will make an excellent texture and flavor addition. In fact, you may crave the squash more than the coconut itself. Who’d a thunk? Get the recipe.

Cinnamon Roasted

Mindy’s Cooking Obsession

We already know roasted spaghetti squash with cinnamon tastes delicious, so why not kick things up a notch with the addition of chopped apples and brown sugar? This is like the Turducken of seasonal dessert flavors. You get all of your favorites in one, because #Merica. Get the recipe.

Cake

PCC Markets

Sugar, spice, and everything nice. And by nice we mean spaghetti squash baked and topped with a drool-worthy cream cheese frosting. We’re getting major carrot cake vibes with this one, but with half the effort. Eat your heart out, Bugs Bunny. Get the recipe.
