Welcome Emma Christensen!

Emma Christensen and Elise Bauer

Hello everyone! Several months ago I announced big changes brewing here at Simply Recipes. We have new recipes, new contributors, and now a new addition to our Simply Recipes team.

Please join me in welcoming—Emma Christensen, who is our new Managing Editor! Emma is responsible for working with our contributors and making sure that all of the new recipes posted to the site meet the standard of quality and ease that we all expect from a Simply Recipes recipe.

After 13 years of flying mostly solo on this site, I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to have Emma as a partner on Simply Recipes.

What Is the Difference Between Chuck Roast and Chuck Steak?

The difference between chuck roast and chuck steak is simply the cut. Chuck is an inexpensive beef that comes from the muscle between the neck and shoulder blade of the beef cattle. That's why other names for chuck roast include blade pot roast. Roasts and steaks are most popular cuts of chuck. In a roast, the meat often includes part of the blade bone, and it's cut in a cylindrical or oblong shape in which the grain runs in the same direction as the long side of the meat. How to cut a chuck roast? Simple. A chuck steak is that same piece of meat, but cut into 1- to 3-inch thick slices, according to Livestrong. Measure out equal portions and use a longer chef's knife for an even edge to each slice. (more...)

10 Great Ways to Use Oreos

I skipped a holiday party tonight to Google the history of the Oreo. Yes, my friends. The one, the only, the impossibly delish, crave-it-as-you-eat-it Oreo. Only Oreos can induce that response - where you’re thirsty for a 10 gallon jug of milk even as you reach for another, never daring to break the spell of chocolate crumble and ambiguously tasty cream filling. How (And Why) You Should Throw a Taco Fiesta this Winter

As we kick off 2017 (goodbye, 2016, ya bish!), there's no reason why you shouldn't throw a winter fiesta. I can’t say that I truly love New Year’s Eve (does anyone?), but I can get down with hosting a cozy lowbrow/highbrow feast that demands tacos accompanied by champagne. Who wouldn't want to melt away their winter blues with delicious meat to kiss the cold goodbye before sailing into the spring? (more...)

Stovetop Butterscotch Pudding

Stovetop Butterscotch Pudding
This rich and silky pudding is best served warm, when you're snuggled down on the couch in your PJs, but it's not half bad all thick and wobbly from the fridge as a midnight snack. In either case, its creamy consistency depends in part on white chocolate; our favorite supermarket brand is Green & Blacks, which has a strong vanilla flavor that doesn't distract from the combination of toasted sugar and malted milk that gives this pudding its butterscotchy character. Salt-Wilted Brussels Sprout Salad With Hazelnuts and Goat Cheese

Salt-Wilted Brussels Sprout Salad With Hazelnuts and Goat Cheese
Many of the best salads bring together a wide variety of ingredients, each with its own distinct textures and flavors. But sometimes it's fun to play with a single ingredient, using more than one technique to bring out different qualities in it. Such is the case in this shredded Brussels sprout salad, in which half the sprouts are shredded and left raw and the other half tossed with salt until soft and wilted. Together, they're much greater than the sum of their parts. Get Recipe!
