Try These Rabbit Recipes for a Thematic (and Traumatic?) Easter Menu

What Is the Difference Between AmazonFresh and Prime Now?

Amazon has completely changed the way the world shops, and yes, that includes how we buy groceries. The e-commerce juggernaut offers several food delivery services including Prime Now and AmazonFresh. In advance of Prime Day, which will likely occur in mid-July this year, we break down the differences between these two programs and what they mean for consumers.

What is Prime Now?

Prime Now is a service that is free for all Amazon Prime members. Prime Now offers free delivery within two hours for an array of groceries and household products, even toys, electronics, and pet supplies. And given their acquisition of Whole Foods, you can also get fresh produce, meat and dairy sent directly from those stores (in case you missed it, they lowered Whole Foods prices on more than 500 items last week, and Prime members get even more savings)—but depending on where you are, other grocery stores may also be part of the service. For an additional fee, you can also have products like electronics or printer ink delivered to your door within an hour. As amazing as this service may sound, it’s only available in select locations; however, the list of areas that have access to this program is ever-changing. You can search for your zip code on their site to see whether or not you qualify.

What is AmazonFresh?

While Prime Now is available to anyone with an Amazon Prime subscription, AmazonFresh is an add-on service that costs an additional fee (as of now it’s an extra $14.99 a month). AmazonFresh is exclusively focused on grocery delivery (in some areas, you can even have beer delivered along with your snacks, pantry and cleaning items, and fresh fruit and veggies). The service allows you to schedule the delivery time that is most convenient to you—or, in some locations, you can opt for pickup if you prefer. The groceries are delivered (or held at the pickup location) in insulated packaging and reusable totes to help guarantee freshness. Unlike Prime Now, AmazonFresh deliveries are not free, unless your order exceeds a certain amount.

Whether or not either of these services are ideal for you depends on a lot of factors, most notably your geographic location and your budget. But even if you’re not willing to shell out the extra bucks for door-to-door delivery, Amazon Prime members are also eligible for certain discounts at Whole Foods. So even if you’re doing your grocery shopping the old-fashioned way, you can still take advantage of Amazon’s price points.

There were rumors last summer that the two services might be about to merge or become more interconnected in the coming months, but that hasn’t happened yet.

If you’re still exploring your options, check out some other grocery delivery services, or even meal kit delivery services if you have trouble deciding what to cook. And get prepping for Prime Day 2019.

When Is Amazon Prime Day 2019? And What Kinds of Deals Can You Expect?

Amazon Prime Day 2019 (When is Amazon Prime Day? Best Prime Day 2019 Deals)

Amazon Prime Day 2019 is still a couple months out, but it’s never too early to get ready, right? We’re expecting it to happen sometime in mid-July, and hoping the site won’t crash like it did last year.

We’ll be updating this post with info on the best and latest Amazon Prime Day 2019 deals whenever they’re eventually announced, but in the meanwhile, let’s speculate a little.

Last year, the Instant Pot was the best-selling kitchen item, and sold out in 19 hours—we’re guessing it’ll still be a hot item this time around, though perhaps it’ll have some competition from newer models or even other multicookers like the Ninja Foodi or the $1,000+ Vermicular?

We don't know how low the price will go, but it's already $20 off right now.

While they’re not as obviously food-related, the Echo Spot, Echo Dot, and Echo Show are also helpful in the kitchen—from assisting with recipes and cooking questions to making it easy to time multiple things and update your grocery list (or just watch Netflix while you’re boiling pasta)—and we suspect they’ll sell just as well in 2019 as they did last year. Since they’re Amazon’s own brand, they’ll likely be more deeply discounted too.

Speaking of Amazon’s brands, now that Whole Foods is owned by the company, we’re sure to see some great deals on groceries in-store (and maybe also online). Amazon already lowered prices at Whole Foods last week on more than 500 items.

Of course, Prime Day should also bring some great deals on kitchenware and other appliances, whether you’re looking replace one specific thing or totally refresh your kitchen arsenal. (In the meanwhile, check out the last few days of the Sur la Table spring sale for some real steals on pots, pans, and other cookware!)

If you’ve been putting off spring cleaning, maybe you’ll be able to snag some of these Marie Kondo-inspired products for cheap on Prime Day so you can finally actually get your place in order.

No matter what you’re looking for, the best deals will likely be exclusive to Amazon Prime members, but other discounts will still be offered to all—check out The Cheapskate’s tips on making the most of Prime Day (and making sure you’re actually getting good deals).

And stay tuned for more to come on Prime Day 2019!
