It may seem like an obvious fast food staple and yet Taco Bell has never had fries on their menu…until now. It’s weird that it took this long for a company with such creative offerings as Dorito-shelled tacos and Kit Kat quesadillas to just add an item this basic to its repertoire. But alas we can now breathe a collective sigh of relief, because 2018 is off to a delicious and auspicious start!
As of Jan. 25, nacho fries, complete with Mexican seasoning, will be on the dollar menu for a limited time. And for just $2.50 you can get them served “Supreme” style with the addition of warm cheese sauce. If you’re feeling like splurging even more, go for the $3.50 Bel Grande variation, which comes with beef, pico, nacho cheese, and sour cream. How fancy! (So much for our New Year’s healthy eating resolutions.)
Taco Bell’s Chief Marketing Officer, Marisa Thalberg, said in a statement,”We believe passionately that people should have more than just the ability to eat for $1; they should be able to feast. We are (and always have been) committed to coming up with the most craveable, creative menu items that set the bar for what great food at a great value should be.”
Taco Bell claims to have garnered over 500 million bucks from dollar menu items last year alone (that’s a lot of tacos!), which makes the nacho fries a lucrative addition, given the impressive sales numbers. Fast food brands like McDonald’s and Jack in the Box both recently relaunched value menus too, since they’ve proven to be such lucrative components to the fast food industry.
This is good news for consumers’ wallets, though maybe not the best news for our waistlines. Nevertheless, if the dollar menu wars will get us fries at Taco Bell, we’ll call it a draw.
