It’s safe to say that the world has collectively flipped out over Starbucks’ limited edition Unicorn Frappucino, but this isn’t the first time we’ve fallen victim to gimmicky marketing campaigns featuring foods with rainbow colors. (And if we had to bet money on it, this certainly won’t be the last.)
In protest of ROYGBIV and in support of those who may be color blind, we’ve decided to round up some classic dessert recipes to celebrate the world in black and white. No artificial dyes, no mythical creatures, just good, ol’ fashioned indulgences that always satisfy the sweet tooth. Scroll down to check them out!
1. Easy Rice Pudding
While rice pudding is certainly one of the most basic of all desserts (it should probably be re-named Becky), it’s also one of the most fulfilling. Milk? Yum. Sugar? Delicious. Carbs? Obviously. It ticks all the right boxes. Get our Easy Rice Pudding recipe.
2. Christmas Coconut Cake
You don’t need Santa’s approval to enjoy a slice of decadent coconut cake outside of the holidays. In fact, he would probably encourage its consumption on every day of the year. Being on the Naughty List has never felt so good. Get our Christmas Coconut Cake recipe.
3. Black & White Cookies
Bring a little taste of NYC to your kitchen without the smells of curbside garbage and abandoned dog poop. Chocolate and vanilla go together like taxi drivers and expletives. Get the recipe.
4. Chocolate Cupcakes with Toasted Marshmallow Frosting
While it may be difficult to find a suitable camping spot for s’mores, this marshmallow-heavy recipe brings the familiar summertime taste into the comfort of your own home. Just don’t set yourself on fire during the toasting process. Get our Chocolate Cupcakes with Toasted Marshmallow Frosting recipe.
5. Black Forest Cake
This is a forest we’d like to get lost in. Featuring notes of dark cherries with layers of rich whipped cream, this chocolate explosion gives Willy Wonka a run for his money. Get our Black Forest Cake recipe.
6. Chocolate Coconut Macarons
If it’s pretty, it must taste good, right? This isn’t always the case, but it certainly applies to these black and white chocolate coconut macarons. We’ll take a dozen or seven, please. Get the recipe.
7. Chocolate-Dipped Cookies-and-Cream Ice Cream Bars
We don’t even know where to begin with these heavenly delights. They’re essentially Klondike bars, but with a gourmet and completely customizable upgrade. Devour with caution. Get our Chocolate-Dipped Cookies-and-Cream Ice Cream Bars recipe.
8. Pfeffernüsse (German Spice Cookies)
Sugar is sweet, but a little spice is nice. Enjoy the best of both worlds with these traditional German cookies that put the “guten” in “guten tag.” Get our Pfeffernüsse (German Spice Cookies) recipe.
9. Vegan Fudgy Black Bean Brownies
Hats off to the folks at Namely Marly for incorporating black beans into a vegan dessert recipe. You know what they say: beans, beans, they’re good for your heart, the more you eat, the more you…get your daily serving suggestion of protein. Get the recipe.
10. Chocolate Mousse Pie
Needless to say, the moose must be relieved to not be a four-legged creature with a horn. Can you imagine the god-awful puns for rainbow-colored mousse? Get our Chocolate Mousse Pie recipe.
11. Cupcakes with Chocolate Cake and Cookies and Cream Ice Cream
You may not have known that ice cream cupcakes are a thing (in which case, you’re welcome.) And they say the elusive unicorn is trendy. Puh-lease. Are unicorns topped with Oreos? We think not. Get our Cupcakes with Chocolate Cake and Cookies and Cream Ice Cream recipe.
