In an official statement on Aug. 31, the USDA announced a recall of nearly 25,000 pounds of raw beef products from American Beef Packers, Inc., a Chino, California-based beef producer and distributor.
While it was not reported exactly with what or how the beef was contaminated, it is, according to the report, confirmed that a carcass of beef was possibly contaminated and due for further testing by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s Food Safety (FSIS), but was processed and released to the public in error.
The unfit and potentially contaminated beef products were packaged on Aug. 21, 2019, and bear the USDA inspection establishment number “EST 34741.” Most are said to have been shipped to California and Oregon after being processed into cuts of boneless beef, ribeye, sirloins, and tenderloin. Though there have been no reports of illness as of yet, if you think you may have purchased products from the possibly contaminated beef (likely to be in your freezer at this point), it is recommended to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.
