The Most Searched-For Food & Restaurants, According to Google Maps

When you’re hungry in a strange place, Google Maps is surely one of easiest ways to find good eats (other than, ya know, talking to people who live in said city, but then you’d have to pause your podcast and take out your earbuds and, well, it’s just a whole big thing).

In celebration of G-Maps turning 15 this year—literally, how did people even get to work before then?—they’ve has released some fun food-centric search data about exactly what our hangry selves were Googling to find food—a.k.a. “Foogling” in 2019. OK, I just made that up…are you obsessed?

best of the bestThe 100 Best Restaurants in 2019, According to OpenTableLet’s get down to business. To celebrate the anniversary, Google Maps checked in on what cuisine people were looking for in all 50 states in 2019. In what should come as no surprise, pizza is in the top three of every single state, and the No. 1 most-searched-for food in 46 out of 50 states (keto, who?!). Chinese food, breakfast, coffee, and seafood also made strong showings, coast to coast, landing in the top three in multiple states.

Google Maps also sussed out which specific chains people were looking for (also by state) and guess what? More pizza. Domino’s took the top spot in 25 out of 50 states, with Pizza Hut nabbing the trophy for the most-searched-for chain restaurant in 10 states. Domino’s was also the most-searched-for chain nationally, followed by McDonald’s, Starbucks, and Pizza Hut.
