Clean Label Supreme

Interest in naturalness, minimal processing and clean labeling is no longer new in the food industry. In fact, as long ago as 2008, “Go Natural” led Innova Market Insights’ annual trends listing.

Iced Chai Latte

Iced Chai Tea Latte

Last summer, I was all about cold brew coffee. This summer, my obsession is iced chai lattes. And my friends, I am deeply obsessed.

The size (and frequency) of my batches seems to have become larger and larger as the summer has progressed. At first, I was just drinking one or two glasses in the morning. And then another glass in the afternoon started to seem perfectly reasonable.

When I switched from water glasses to pint glasses, I knew I was in trouble.

Fruit Punch Pickles Are the Most Walmart Things to Come Out of Walmart

What’s the dill?

Just when we thought we’ve seen it all, Walmart had to one-up the Oreo, Lay’s, and Pringles flavor mash-up trend by releasing a line of tropical punch-flavored pickles, otherwise known as “Tropickles.” The bright red treat (?), as part of the mass retailer’s Great Value brand, will be carried in nearly 1,200 stores nationwide.

“The modern-day couple, the pickle and fruit punch met on social media (they bonded over recipes on Pinterest, to be exact),” Walmart revealed in a statement. “Now, we are celebrating their union on Walmart store shelves.”

While the idea may sound vomit-inducing to many, its sweet and sour cousin, the Kool-Aid pickle (Koolickle), is actually a delicacy in the South. In fact, you can find it at many county fairs alongside corn dogs, funnel cake, and all the deep fried and sugar-laden options your heart desires (and certainly doesn’t need).

At only $2 a jar, this funky food is obviously worth a try. But if you’re still craving the briny deliciousness of a sandwich-side classic, here are some pickle-heavy recipes below. (Including a pickle ice cream, because why not?).

Pickle Ice Cream

Summer isn’t going anywhere any time soon, so beat that horrible heat with this playful play on everyone’s favorite dessert. Now the real question is: What sort of cone do we serve this in?

Garlic Dill Pickles

Chowhound

Garlic makes everything healthier, but it comes with the price of stinky breath. If you can deal with the latter, you’ll love to crunch on one of these homemade varieties. Claussen, who? Get the recipe.

Martinowitz

Chowhound

Pickleback shots aren’t the most classy things to order at a bar, but you’ll be pinkies up with a Martinowitz. Though the drink is heavy on gin, you can sub it with ice cold vodka for the same effect. Get the recipe.
