Watch Out, Trader Joe’s: Target Is Selling $5 Bottles of Wine

Target

Target just got a lot more red. And in our favorite shade of all time: red wine red.

Starting September 3, the retail giant will sell a line of five California-based vinos at only $5 a bottle. That means your quick trip for deodorant or batteries has now turned into an excuse to start Happy Hour early. No complaints here.

Titled California Roots, the collection includes a Cabernet Sauvignon, Red Blend, Moscato, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay. Here’s a breakdown of each bottle‘s profile, as well as Target-provided pairing suggestions:

Chardonnay

Target

Profile: Lush tropical fruit flavors and a bright finish will transport you to a warm, sunny day at the farmers market

Pairings: Artisanal cheeses and freshly baked bread

Pinot Grigio

Target

Profile: Vibrant citrus and tropical fruit flavors let you enjoy the fresh, easygoing feeling of summer any time of the year

Pairings: Crisp green salads and fresh fish

Moscato

Target

Profile: Delicate aromas and creamy peach and melon flavors make every day feel a little more special

Pairings: Sweet, freshly picked berries

Cabernet Sauvignon

Target

Profile: Juicy cherry flavors, hints of oak and graceful finish elevate even the simplest pleasures

Pairings: Thick ribeye steaks

Red Blend

Profile: Smooth berry and cherry flavors with hints of spice offer the perfect antidote to the workweek

Pairings: Wild mushroom pasta and grilled vegetables

“We’re out to give our guests even more reasons to love Target—including exclusive products they can’t find anywhere else,” said Jeff Burt, senior vice president of food and beverage in a statement. “And we think they’re going to love California Roots—these wines are just the right blend of incredible quality and amazing value that guests can only get at Target.”

Amazing value, indeed. We’re just having a difficult time finding appropriate counter space. Because let’s be honest: Like everything in Target, we’re absolutely trying one of each.

Slow and Low Country Ribs

Slow and Low Country Ribs

When it comes to the grill or barbecue, I defer to my colleague Hank, especially when it concerns meat. Here he shows us how to cook pork country ribs, slow and low. A favorite from the archives! ~Elise

Country ribs. Big slabs of porky goodness cut from the shoulder of the hog. Sold boneless or bone-in, these are nothing like a rack of ribs. They are pork logs, laced with fat, and require slow, low-temperature cooking to become delicious.

That’s the downside: You can’t do a fast country rib.

The upside is that they are all meat, so you only need one to fill you up. In fact, I slice them in half because a full rib, which can weigh a pound, can be too much for some people.

Oreo Ice Cream

Oreo Ice Cream
This ice cream may look like plain chocolate, but it's not—it's a super concentrated version of cookies 'n cream. Its rich flavor and color come from crushed Oreo wafers (which you can feel free to buy or make from scratch), with a handful of crushed sandwich cookies folded in at the end. It tastes just like Oreos, but in a creamy, scoop-shop form. Get Recipe!

The Ultimate Greek Salad
A good Greek salad must be made with peak summer tomatoes, crisp and refreshing cucumbers, briny black olives, and just a bit of onion, here quickly pickled to tame its pungency and add pops of acidity to each slice. Then the ultimate topper: slabs of feta. Get Recipe!
