The Best Sparkling Waters Besides LaCroix

La Croix alternatives sparkling water, selzter, and sparkling tea

We know, we know. LaCroix is a blessing from the carbonated water gods. (Especially the grapefruit flavor. Don’t @ us.) But if it’s the only brand of seltzer you’ve been throwing back, that means you’re missing out on an ever-growing suite of other sparkling sips. There’s a much bigger bubbly world out there, and it even includes Cannabidiol (or CBD as the kids call it).

Here are our favorites outside the LaCroix universe.

Sound Tea on Amazon, 12 for $29.99 on Amazon

Amazon

The sophisticated, worldly older sister of the group. Sound is a bubbly bottled tea that’s Non-GMO and certified organic. And the flavors are very “Brooklyn coffee shop” if you know what we mean: Chamomile, Green Tea, Rose Tea, White Tea, and Yerba Mate.See It

Spindrift, 20 for $22.99 on Amazon

Spindrift

Arguably the second most popular seltzer water among Millennials, Spindrift’s sunny cans come in 9 flavors, from Strawberry to Half & Half (tea and lemon). Best part? They come in variety packs so you don’t have to be stuck with two dozens cans of Cucumber.See It

Topo Chico, 6 for $22.21 on Amazon

Tropo Chico

This hipster-H2O is everywhere in Texas (it’s sourced and bottled in Monterrey, Mexico). Now you can buy it online in the OG mineral water, Twist of Grapefruit, and Twist of Lime. The latter goes great with a shot of tequila.See It

Bubly, 18 for $10.99 on Amazon

Amazon

Ordering up a sampler pack of Bubly is like tasting the rainbow. Flavors range from Apple to Strawberry, and there’s a day-brightening greeting (one says “hiii”) on every tab.See It

Richard’s Rainwater, 24 for $29

Richard’s Rainwater

An up-and-comer in Texas, Richard’s Sparkling Rainwater is quickly becoming a bubbly BFF to Austin-ites, where it’s served at the kind of bars and restaurants that would be up to speed on the small-batch, locally made fizzy water of the moment. It’s still only available in The Lone Star State, but isn’t a yearly food-and-music pilgrimage to Austin sort of like mandatory these days? Also, it’s made from actual rainwater! Sorry (not sorry) we buried the lead.See It

Polar Seltzer, 24 for $23.27 on Amazon

Polar

The sheer number of flavors—they’ve got nineteen total—make Polar a contender in the sparkling water category (i.e. it’s not just the plastic bottle you grab in college when trying to make that cheap vodka go down a bit easier anymore). The Orange Vanilla one is like sipping on a Dreamsicle and Cranberry Clementine sounds like something Willy Wonka would have come up with.See It

Clearly Canadian, $2.50 each at World Market

Amazon

One sip of their Wild Cherry bevvie is like hopping in a time machine to the ‘90s, when this sparkling water took off. It went out of production in 2009, but now you can indulge in a bit of nostalgia thanks to World Market, the only U.S. retailer carrying the stuff. Speaking of the ‘90s, they only sell it in-store, but you can order it for pickup online.See It

Original New York Seltzer, $1 each on World Market

Original New York Seltzer

These cute glass bottles pack some taste-bud tickling punch in flavors like Root Beer, Cola & Berry, and Vanilla Cream. If you’re having a party, throw a few of these on your bar cart for a good-looking arrangement. Also? Sober drivers will be much obliged.See It

8 Stylish Water Bottles That’ll Make You Want To Hydrate

best water bottles to keep you hydrated

Half a gallon. That’s how much water you should be drinking every day. So what do you do? Fill up your water bottle with the best intentions at 9 am, only to let it sit there, hardly touched, until 3 pm, when obviously, it’s coffee time. We can’t blame you. Room temperature tap isn’t exactly inspiring. What you need is a bottle that will demand your attention. Here, design-minded water bottles that make throwing back agua easier (and dress up your desk).

HYDAWAY Collapsible Water Bottle, $24.95 on Amazon

Amazon

This is the discreet-looking squishy one you throw in your bag so you NEVER have to pay $4 for a bottled water ever again.See It

Brimma Leak Proof Fruit Infuser Water Bottle, $21.97 on Amazon

Amazon

Add cucumber, lemon, raspberries or mint to the infuser part of the bottle, and boom! You’ve got spa water.See It

Elixir2Go Crystal Elixir Bottle on Amazon, $44.99 on Amazon

Elixir gemstone water bottle

Amazon

Sure, the claims that this water bottle can infuse your plain old H20 with crystal healing powers is, uh, theoretical at best. But who cares when it looks this pretty? Also, know that the “gemstone-pod” is separated by glass from the rest of your water so if you do dig crystals (no judgement!) you can swap in your own favorites.See It

HYDY Vacuum Insulated Thermal Water Bottle, $45 on Amazon

Amazon

We think of this stunner as the designer athleisure of water bottles. It comes in 20 colors (though we love the pink gold selection) and keeps your water ice-cold for 24 hours, which is ideal for those of you who shun the room temperature stuff.See It

Reduce WaterWeek Classic Reusable Water Bottles, $20 on Amazon

Amazon

This set, which includes a fridge tray, is designed to help you easily have a clean bottle of H20 on hand every day of the week. It’s also an economical way to stock up for the family, or have one water bottle in the car, at the office, and at home.See It

SH Tritan Water Bottle, $9.99 on Amazon

Amazon

We don’t think this has been scientifically proven, but we always drink more when there’s a straw involved. This is a cross between a minimalist tumbler and a water bottle, so you won’t feel like you’re drinking from a sippy cup.See It

Pure Copper Lotus Water Bottle, $29.90 on Amazon

Amazon

Water bottle or design object? (Admit it, it really makes up for your office-issue stapler!) It’s also ethically made in India, and copper, in Ayurvedic tradition, is known to purify water.See It

S’well Vacuum Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle in Birds of Paradise, $35 on Amazon

Amazon

We love S’well because the double wall means they never sweat and this Supreme-ish red one even has a matching cap. We say, if you’re thinking about going bold with color, commit.See It

Chowhound Gift Guide 2018: Best High-End Craft Beers Over $25

gift guide 2018 best expensive craft beers and rare beers

We’re not suggesting slapping a bow on a six-pack of PBR.  What we are telling you is to consider gifting fancy pants suds that are worth the extra cash. Thanks to the proliferation of craft beer, breweries stateside and abroad are upping their game trying to keep up with the ever increasing demand from beer acolytes who don’t mind throwing down money for really excellent, inventive bottles. All of these beers that follow are over $25, but trust us when we say every beer lover in your life will be happy with any one of these under the tree.

Arman & Gaston by Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen, $39.99 at ShopWine Direct

Brouwerij Drie 3 Fonteinen Oude Geuze Cuvee Armand & Gaston Lambic 750ml (Belgium)

Brouwerij 3 Fonteinen

While Armand & Gaston used to fall into the impossible-to-find “white whale” camp, 3 Fonteinen has amped up production this year. This means a ticket to Brussels is no longer needed to get it. Any fan of sour beer will want to pucker up to this wild and complex geuze straight outta the Zenne valley. It all starts with lambic, which is beer that is spontaneously fermented by local wild yeast. A&G consists of a cuvee of one, two, and three-year old lambic aged in oak (thus officially making it a geuze) which matures into a hazy, orange-hued masterpiece that is heavy on the barnyard funk with hints of apple and Sauvignon Blanc.See It

Canadian Breakfast Stout by Founders Brewing Co., $72.99 at Woods Wholsesale Wine

Founders Candian Breakfast Stout

Founders Brewing Co.

Michigan-based Founders get an “A” for this brew inspired by our neighbor to the north. CBS begins with an imperial stout blended with chocolate and coffee—hence the “breakfast” moniker. The base beer spends a few months in bourbon barrels which previously aged maple syrup (that’s the “Canadian” part). The end product is sweet and roasted goodness that is sure to provide a nice morning buzz (it is the holidays after all).See It

Etain by The Bruery

The Bruery Etain rare beer

The Bruery

Etain’s 10th edition in The Bruery’s series of birthday bourbon barrel-aged old ales is a product of the solera method. It combines freshly brewed beer along with a bit of each of its predecessors, making it a cheat sheet of sorts to all the anniversary beers that came before it. Expect notes of toffee, plum, a decent amount of alcohol, and an ample dose of history.See It

Deconstructed Bomb! by Prairie Artisan Ales, $33.99 at K&L Wine Merchants

Prairie Artisan Ales Deconstructed Bomb beer

Prairie Artisan Ales

This Oklahoma brewery is known for Bomb!, an in-your-face stout that lives up to its exclamation point. Much of that excitement can be contributed to the harmonious blend of vanilla, coffee, cacao nibs, and chile peppers all of which anchors the beer. Deconstructed Bomb! takes those flavors and separates each one into four distinct bottles anchored by the same imperial stout base used in Bomb! It’s the beer equivalent of when the four members of KISS each released solo albums.  Though not necessarily better than the sum of all parts, each of the variants shines on its own. And thankfully, there’s no Peter Criss in the bunch.See It

Harlan’s Even More Jesus by Evil Twin Brewing, $44.99 at K&L Wine Merchants

Harlan’s Even More Jesus By Evil Twin Brewing

Evil Twin Brewing

Here’s one’s for the beer geek who also happens to be a wine snob. This limited run imperial stout by Evil Twin gets the red wine barrel-aged treatment—but these barrels ain’t just from any old winery. We’re talking Harlan, the cult Napa sensation that puts sommeliers in a tizzy. Bottles of their wine are nearly impossible to come by and if you’re lucky enough to track one down, the cost will be upwards of four figures, making Harlan’s Even More Jesus $45 price tag seem like a relative bargain. Also, those who crave liquid cherry double fudge brownie will be pleased.See It

Samuel Adams Utopias by Boston Beer Company, $199.99 from Total Wine

Sam Adams Utopias rare beer

The Boston Beer Company

Everyone is familiar with Samuel Adams’ mass produced (though technically still “craft”) Boston Lager. Well, this is basically the exact opposite of that. Utopias is unlike any other beer ever produced. It’s a mad scientist’s blend comprised of multiple barrel-aged beers that are up to 16-years-old. That crazy alchemy creates a smooth sipper with zero carbonation that’s reminiscent of a sherry-cognac hybrid. For the record, this one-of-a-kind offering won’t come cheap (it’s nearly $200) though it does come in a snazzy bottle shaped like a copper brew kettle. Plus the beer won’t go bad even after it’s opened so it can be savored for years to come. Another caveat: This heavyweight comes in at a massive 28 percent ABV which means it’s illegal in several states.See It

Caract̬re Rouge by Brouwerij Rodenbach, $12.04 Р$39.99 at Drizly

Caractère Rouge by Brouwerij Rodenbach

Brouwerij Rodenbach

Rodenbach is known for its traditional Flanders ale which falls in the darker, maltier side of the sour beer spectrum. This fruited version, a collaboration with Michelin-starred Belgian chef Viki Geunes, combines raspberries, cherries, and cranberries with beer that has aged for two years in oak casks. An additional six month maceration process allows the fruit to shine but not overwhelm. It’s a perfect combo of sweet and tart that won’t have you seeing red.See It

Bourbon County Brand Midnight Orange Stout by Goose Island Beer Co., $50.04 at Drizly

Goose Island Brewery Bourbon County Midnight Orange Stout

Goose Island Brewery

The annual Black Friday release of Goose Island’s Bourbon County series has beer lovers frantically scavenging liquor stores on the prowl for bottles. While the standard Bourbon County Brand Stout remains popular, the elusive variants which rotate every year are the real prize. 2018 saw the introduction of this bourbon barrel-aged cocoa and citrus stout and it did not disappoint. Tasting remarkably similar to Terry’s Christmas Orange Milk Chocolate, it’s perfect for the holidays. Happy hunting.See It

Cherion by Superstition Meadery, $50 at Superstition Meadery

Superstition Meadery Cherion 2018

Superstition Meadery

Sorry (not sorry), but mead is hot right now, especially with beer drinkers. Once you try a sip of that sweet, sweet honey wine, you’ll be craving more—especially when it comes from Superstition. Cherion is some of the best of what the award-winning meadery has to offer. It combines local Arizona wildflower honey mead with a blackberry, raspberry, and blueberry juice trio along with some tart Colorado pie cherries for good measure. The whole shebang is then aged in bourbon barrels which previously housed Iridium Flare, a marionberry braggot (basically a beer and mead hybrid) that Superstation concocted with equally-esteemed Anaheim brewery Bottle Logic.See It

Sahalie by The Ale Apothecary, $26.99 at ShopWine Direct

Ale Apothecary Sahalie

Craftshack

Though only six years old, Ale Apothecary produces some of the best wild ales in the country. Case in point: their flagship beer Sahalie, which spends up to a year in oak barrels. Continuous dry-hopping provides an earthy, hoppy aroma as the beer develops a pleasant fruity tang thanks to house-cultured lactobacillus (the same bacteria found in yogurt). There’s definitely a lot going on with this beer but that’s a good thing—think hints of tropical fruits, banana, oak, and fresh scones. Though barely hovering below double-digit ABV this one goes down easy.See It

If you have a hard time tracking down the beer you’re after, see what’s available on Saucey, which delivers beer, wine, spirits, and more straight to your door. Now through December 26, you can get 10 percent off orders of $40 or more when you use code WINTER2018. And if you’re a first-timer, get 20 percent off your initial order when you use code COLDWEATHER. Select areas can also get free 30 minute delivery (with no order minimum requirement).

You’ll Never Guess Which Amazon Items Made Oprah’s 2018 Favorite Things List

Oprah’s annual list of favorite things has historically contained a lot of bougie items we could only dream of purchasing for our friends and family (or ourselves for that matter). From a diamond watch to a 7-day Royal Caribbean cruise, not to mention the whole “you get a car! YOU GET A CAR!” thing, some of Oprah’s fabulous gift picks have seemed a little out of reach for us regular people. But this year, even Oprah has caught the Amazon bug. She’s curated a list of her favorite Amazon products, and we’ve combed through her picks to curate our top items. We’ve even included the least expensive item on this year’s list in our favorites –not because it’s cheap, but because it sounds amazing. Keep reading for the full list of what we’re buying with Oprah’s seal of approval.

Truff Hot Sauce, $17.98 on Amazon

Amazon

If there’s one thing Oprah’s partner Stedman is known for, it’s his loyalty, as he’s been by Oprah’s side for more than 30 years. According to Oprah, Stedman is also loyal to his hot sauce. Apparently he’s been a patron of Louisiana Hot Sauce for the past 30 years…until now. He’s still loyal to Oprah, but he’s switched hot sauces to Truff and we can’t blame him –with a spicy black truffle flavor profile this stuff sounds amazing. This is also the least expensive item on this year’s list, so make sure to stock up on this delicious stocking stuffer.See It

Smoke-less Indoor Grill, $249.95 on Amazon (17% off – originally $299.99)

Amazon

Whether you live somewhere cold and can’t use your grill year-round, or you live in an apartment building and can only dream of having a backyard with the ultimate grilling set-up, we feel you. And so does Oprah. Even though Oprah could probably fit 100 grills in her backyard, she still says this indoor grill makes a burger worthy of her praise, which says a lot.See It

Helix Hand Mixer, $29.99 on Amazon

Amazon

Some things are just easier to make with a hand mixer, versus a traditional stand mixer (personally we prefer whipping cream with a hand mixer). And not everyone has the room to store a giant stand mixer in their tiny kitchen. Enter the hand mixer – and not just any hand mixer, but the hand mixer Oprah put her seal of approval on. Its rainbow of colors and low price make this a great gift option for just about anyone.See It

Carl the Drinking Chocolate Snowman, $38.00 on Amazon

Amazon

You won’t be sad to watch this snowman melt, trust us. This super adorable chocolate snowman is filled with hot cocoa mix and mini marshmallows so all you have to do is drop it in the pot and watch ol’ Frosty melt into chocolatey goodness. Editor’s note: One of our editors used to live in Dallas (where Kate Weiser Chocolate, the boutique chocolate shop who created this amazing product originated), and can personally attest to how amazing Kate’s chocolate products are.See It

Russ & Daughters New York Brunch Kit, $140.00 on Amazon

Amazon

We all know Oprah loves bread. And it’s safe to say she has any bread product available to her in the world at all times. So we don’t take her bread recommendations lightly. Oprah’s favorite carby item this year is from New York institution Russ & Daughters (you don’t stay in business for 104 years if you’re not good, that’s a fact). This brunch kit contains all of their top hits – hand-rolled bagels, smoked salmon, and cream cheese, plus chocolate babka, and coffee.See It

Nespresso Lattissima One, $265.95 on Amazon (30% off-originally $379.00)

Amazon

Give the gift of convenient coffee that can be made at home with this beautiful Nespresso machine. Not only can it can make a creamy cappuccino or latte macchiato at the touch of a button, it also comes in three chic colors (creamy white is our favorite). AND to top it off it’s currently 30% off!See It

Hanukkah Bark and Peppermint Bark, $29.95 on Amazon

Amazon

Our favorite hostess gift this year comes in the form of chocolate (no surprise there). This delicious gift doesn’t care what holiday you’re celebrating this season – whether you’re into Hanukkah or Christmas (or the best of both worlds in Christmakuh) there’s a chocolate bark for you. This special chocolate bark comes from a Hilliards Chocolates, a family business in its fourth generation that handcrafts small batches using family recipes, so you can feel good about your purchase (although to be honest we always feel good when we’re purchasing chocolate).See It

Second Home Kitchen Essentials

how to stock a second kitchen (VRBO 1382494)

Whether it’s an A-frame cabin in the woods or a beach shack near the ocean, owning a second home might sound like a dream. Unless you’re lucky enough to have one, and you find yourself trying to remember whether or not you left the cocktail shaker with the pasta pot back at the vaca house come Monday when you’re trying to make dinner and return to the real world. While a second kitchen may not have everything you need to, say, host a holiday meal for twenty, stocking it properly is essential.

Below, the items you just can’t shuttle back and forth when you’re trying to enjoy the weekend away.

Amazon Basics Microwave with Alexa Capabilities, $59.99 on Amazon

Amazon

Alexa, microwave for two minutes. Your second home kitchen needs a nuker (especially for movie night when, obviously, popcorn is required). This low-cost, high-tech option has Alexa capabilities, but also a keypad for those technophobes or, you know, your mom.See It

Brevo Cordless Electric Glass Kettle, $26.99 on Amazon (originally $39.99)

Amazon

An electric kettle can boil water, but can also be used to prep oatmeal, pasta, and even eggs. For smaller kitchens, it’s a no-brainer since it takes up little counter space, is easy to store, and maybe a lower cost option if you can’t install that Smeg oven you have your eye on just yet.See It

Bodum Pour-Over Coffee Maker With Permanent Filter, $17 on Amazon

Amazon

A pour-over coffee maker is simple to use, (even for pour-over novices, we swear!), and is easier to clean than a drip coffee machine, with parts that can easily be thrown in the dishwasher.See It

21-Tube Spice Rack, $105 at Dean & DeLuca

Dean & Deluca

This has all your spice essentials—oregano, hot pepper flakes, and blends for meat and fish. This is the kind of all-in-one package that will ensure you won’t be eating bland chicken because you forgot that one bag with, you know, everything by your other doorstep before hitting the road.See It

All-Clad Stainless Steel 5 Piece Set, $349.95 on Sur La Table (originally $525)

Sur la Table

In a second kitchen, less is more, and one pot and one pan can do a lot. The key is not to skimp on these workhorses. This All-Clad set has a skillet, saute pan, and saucepan and all look pretty slick on the counter if you don’t have the cabinet space to store them.See It

Greenpan 5 Piece Non-Stick Ceramic Set, $59.99 at Target

Target

If you can’t swing the All-Clad (that’s for the next second home), this is a more economical option that has a non-stick open frypan, a non-stick cover frypan, and a bamboo tuner. Non-stick is easy to clean, easy to use, and always looks like new even if you have several Airbnb guests cycling through.See It

Corelle LivingWare Winter Frost Vitrelle 16 Piece Dinner Set, $22.99 at Target

When in doubt, go with all-white dishes. This set is microwave and dishwasher safe, and also isn’t your grandmother’s vintage china, so you won’t wince if a guest drops a coffee cup. We say buy two sets so you have matching plates in case you host a larger dinner party.See It

Stemless Wine Glasses, 12 for $17.99 at Target

Target

Do you want to drink your Sauvignon Blanc out of a mug? Spring for wine glasses—especially durable, inexpensive options that are stemless and less prone to breaking (see above regarding several Airbnb guests cycling through).See It

Ilyas Bazaar 5-Piece Utensil Set, $39.99 on Amazon

Amazon

We don’t know any other wooden utensils that channel a just-a-little-cabin-in-Big-Sur vibe more than these.See It

Greener Chef Knife & Bamboo Cutting Board Gift Set, $22.99 on Amazon

Amazon

A multi-purpose knife and a cutting board that can double as a cheese plate? Check and check.See It

PJ Kabos Extra Virgin Olive Oil, $25 on Amazon

Amazon

When stocking a second kitchen, pantry essentials are a must. And since you’re probably coming to your vacation home to indulge in some noshing and drinking wine by the fire, make sure those staples are a little more elevated than your Monday through Thursday stuff. This olive oil, a 2018 winner of the London Olive Oil competition, can stand alone with warm bread or can be used for cooking.See It

Brevo Toaster, $22.99 on Amazon

Amazon

This toaster, with extra-large slots for bagels, also has a defrost option for frozen bread. Plus, it will dress up any second home kitchen that might need a remodel.See It
