The 9 Best YouTube Cooking Shows for Vegans

Vegans on YouTube tend to be passionate and march to the beat of their own drum. That’s certainly the case for the best YouTube cooking shows for vegans. These creators and hosts conceived their shows mostly as their passion projects. Some have turned their channels into full-time careers, but all strive to offer vegans delicious food of all kinds. Whether you prefer to get your recipes along with a heavy dose of entertainment or just want to keep it simple, there is a vegan cooking show out there for you—whether you yourself follow a plant-based diet or not.

  1. What’s Cooking in Esther’s Kitchen

If you haven’t heard of Esther the Wonder Pig, you probably will soon. Esther is an internet personality like no other. As her moniker suggests, she is a pig with a personality as big as the hearts of the dads who take care of her. She was once adopted as a mini pig, but she kept growing, inspiring her dads to ultimately leave the big city life behind to start an animal sanctuary for her and other rescued animals.

What’s Cooking in Esther’s Kitchen” is a YouTube series hosted by Steve Jenkins and Derek Walter, the dads of Esther the Wonder Pig, who also post each day to Facebook and other social media accounts in Esther’s voice. They also happen to be critically acclaimed authors of a book about Esther called (you guessed it), “Esther The Wonder Pig.” This cooking channel is casual and includes down-to-earth advice from Derek and Steve. Recipes from the channel include vegan cheese balls and faux fried chicken. In the “Tacos and Tequila” episode, learn how to make fresh lime margaritas and chili tacos with homemade mozzarella.

  1. The Vegan Black Metal Chef

The Vegan Black Metal Chef” is a vegan cooking show that stands out for reasons that go far beyond the theatrics of the host’s costumes and theme. 1. PETA

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is better known simply as PETA. Product Pick: “Ovenly” Cookbook

Ovenly baking cookbook

Lauren Zaser

When St. Patrick’s Day comes around I use it as an excuse to bake with Guinness, and the Black Chocolate Stout Cake from Ovenly is the perfect recipe. It’s a show-stopper of a cake, but baking it is relatively quick and easy (something I’m always looking for in a recipe). It originally calls for their Salted Caramel Cream Cheese Frosting but I went with their Chocolate Buttercream to really have a chocolate overload (and to make it a bit easier). I can’t recommend it enough, just don’t skimp on high-quality cocoa—you’d regret it since that’s the main flavor of the cake. Want to make it extra Irish? Use Kerrygold butter, my personal favorite! The gluten-free peanut butter cookies are also killer. Two reasons to get this book ASAP!

Zapp's potato chips

Of all Irish food-things, my favorite by far are potatoes. Iconic in our understanding of Irish cuisine, even though they were not native to the Emerald Isle (they migrated from the New World).  I love them in all shapes and forms, and this is my favorite potato chip brand: Zapp’s. They’re New Orleans kettle style chips—cooked in peanut oil; crunchy and delicious. They have a great range of flavors—all of them influenced by Louisiana cuisine. My top picks are the Cajun Dill Gator-Tators and the Voodoo chips. I love the packaging so much—check out the little voodoo dolls!

While I really wanted to share the new Talenti Gelato Layers Mint Fudge Cookie flavor that debuted last week, to my dismay I couldn’t find it anywhere. So I’m reverting to my classic favorite green ice cream in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day—Talenti’s Mediterranean Mint gelato. They use real mint leaves and steep them for 45 minutes to get the perfect mint flavor. If you’re really feeling extra, make some Guinness chocolate syrup to drizzle on top! Product Pick: McCann’s Irish Oatmeal

McCann's Irish steel cut oatmeal

Lauren Zaser

I love Ireland and Irish food, and St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect excuse to stock my pantry with all manner of Irish goodies (and my fridge with Guinness, of course). This steel-cut Irish oatmeal is definitely there along with the soda bread and Irish butter. I don’t even like oatmeal and I love this stuff. It’s super hearty and creamy, and you can tell you’re putting great stuff in your body while you’re eating it. A little hack to try out is to add a bit of salt instead of sugar. It’s tasty but also great if you’re trying to avoid sugar and don’t like sugar substitutes. It’s a game-changer!
