Ask any roommate, family member or live in boyfriend I’ve had – I suffer from a specific but very severe addiction and it’s only gotten worse over time. If I happen upon a thrift store or quirky gift shop you can bet I’ll be over by the glassware in no time flat- glassy eyed, running my hand over juice cups, champagne coupes and tulip glasses deciding which to buy knowing full well there is no room left in my cabinets at home.
If you’re also afflicted with glassaholism I’m here to tell you that there is hope. One technique for alleviating the anxiety associated with not being able to buy ALL of them is gifting! They may not technically be yours but at least you’ll know you’ve given them a good home and you can even visit them from time to time. Oh, and I guess you’ve done something nice for someone else too, or whatever.
Friendsgiving can sneakily turn out to be one of the drinkiest nights on the holiday calendar so why not lean in and gift your gracious host with a cool set of cocktail vessels, vintage mug or beer glass they never even knew they were missing.
Hand Painted Wine Glasses
I’ll admit I don’t generally care for a painted wine glass and most somms would probably sneer at the idea. But my eye was caught by these art deco looking dandies from DAQQ which would pair perfectly with a nice bottle like this Vecchie Terre di Montefili Chianti.
Jagged Little Whisky Tumbler
This premium silicate crystal glass that is eco-friendly, sturdy, shock proof, heat resistant and cool as hell. For a really special host Pair it with a nice bottle of whisky or sipping tequila like this Grand Mayan Ultra Aged.
Brilliant Red Wine Decanter/Aerator
A modern decanter for a modern wine drinker. This decanter does double duty with a top seal that allows you pour the wine back into the bottle if you want. But with such stunning design, why would you?
Zelda Fitzgerald Cocktail Coupe
Inspired by the iconic drinker and writer who was married to that other iconic drinker. These cocktail glasses with chip resistant rim double as champagne glasses and are a hat tip to a bygone era when literally everyone was drunk but looked fabulous anyway. Update their martini too with the smooth and feel good Simple Vodka, which donates 20 meals to charity per bottle bought.
Beer Tulip
Chances are even if your host or hostess is a beer nerd, they still don’t have all the right glassware. For some reason beer culture, in general, is not as overly concerned with its delivery vessels as wine folk but they definitely should be! If you’re going to bring nice beer glasses your ought to pair it with a nice beer like La Fin Du Monde (“the end of the world”), one of my all time faves.
Blue Bubble Vintage
As I mentioned, I’m mildly obsessed with glassware but vintage juice glasses might be my favorite sub-category. These baby blues (also available in red) have loads of texture and besides being great for juice or water could house a margarita or Bloody Mary.
Crystal Highballs
No hosts arsenal is complete without a set of crystal highballs. Sometimes called Collins glasses, these are as multipurpose as it gets from cocktails to club soda, iced tea and even beer.
