Friday Food Finds: Baru Seeds, Birthday Cake Cracker Jack, Luxury Chocolates, and More!

It’s a good thing I went to the dentist yesterday because my teeth were *somewhat* prepared for the sugar bomb that went off during today’s Chub Chub Chowdown segment on the Taylor Strecker Show. What a delicious Friday morning! I’m not sure how many hours in the gym it’s going to take to burn off these calories, but was it worth it? Absolutely. In fact, I’m diving head first into that orange creme cake as soon as I get home.

Check out everything we sampled below. You’re welcome. Seriously.

Natural Traditions Roasted Baru Seeds

Calling all allergy sufferers! We were shocked by how much these seeds actually taste like peanuts. In fact, we’d love to try them in butter form, combine with jelly, and make a classic “PB”&J sandwich. The only thing off-putting was that some seeds were more roasted than others, but this is a perfectly suitable afternoon snack with a quick protein fix.

Norman Love Chocolates

Norman Love holds an extremely special place in my heart. His factory is in Fort Myers, Fla., just north of where I grew up in Naples, and these chocolates have been a constant during significant life moments. He even launched the G Line when I was working at Godiva at age 17. It comes as no surprise that his newest flavors are amazing (standouts include: Peanut Butter Marshmallow, New York Cheesecake and Passion Truffle). If you find yourself in Southwest Florida, be sure to stop in and try his equally delicious pastries and cakes. You won’t be disappointed.

Cracker Jack Popcorn (Birthday Cake)

Sure, the first two ingredients may be sugar and corn syrup, but there’s no denying that this limited edition batch of popcorn is damn delicious and dangerously addictive. We may actually like it better than the O.G. Cracker Jack, which means they should really consider making this a permanent member of their line-up. A sweet tooth can dream, right?

LaraBars Protein

We really appreciate Larabar’s commitment to pure and simple ingredients (eight or less, to be exact), especially with its latest protein bar line, but these kind of fell short in the taste department. There’s something about the nut and pea protein blend that gives these a gritty texture and dry mouthfeel. Larabar purists will either love or hate them, so you’ll have to buy them and try for yourself!

Caroline’s Cakes (Orange Dream)

We’re not the hugest fans of orange-flavored anything, but if you’re the opposite and are looking for something sweet and decadent, this is absolutely the seasonal cake for you. It’s moist, it’s zesty, and the layers help to create a truly beautiful and colorful slice. We’ll just stick to their famous caramel variety, though. Nothing can compare.

Bonne Maman Intense Fruit Spread (Red Fruit)

Bonne Maman is truly the authority when it comes to fruit spreads and their Intense line doesn’t disappoint. We love that you can get actual chunks of fruits, as well as seeds, in each bite. Raspberry will always be our favorite, though Red Fruit was a pleasant departure from tradition. Tasty!

Ocho Candy

Wow! We may have just found our new favorite candy bar! These were really, really good, and we’re huge fans of their yummy flavor varieties (nut and caramel may be better than an actual Snickers bar). Those looking for smaller indulgences will be happy to know that these come in different sizes, so you can cheat with half the guilt.
