best Trader Joe's fall food TJ's employee picks for fall 2019

It’s full-on PSL season (pumpkin spice latte for those of you in hiding—or denial), also known as fall. So it’s time to throw on a sweater, frolic in the foliage, and light that pumpkin patch candle. It also means that your favorite grocery store, Trader Joe’s, has a whole new slew of fun and tasty autumnal treats. Below are some employee favorites for you to try. Many are seasonal and limited, so we encourage you to sprint.

1. Harvest Blend Herbal Tea, Caffeine Free

This decaf fall favorite tea has notes of apple, cinnamon, ginger, orange peel, and other herbaceous flowers—basically autumn in your mouth. It’s mellow and toasty, and makes the perfect cup of tea for sitting fireside under a cozy blanket. Did someone say hygge?

2. Pumpkin Spice Coffee

For those coffee drinkers who favor a pumpkin spice option in the comfort of their home, there is Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Spice Coffee, a medium dark roast composed of ground Arabica beans with a flavor profile of pumpkin, orange peel, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla beans. A delightful and robust caffeinated coffee to jump start your day as you breathe in the crisp fall air. (If you don’t do pumpkin, try their Autumn Maple Coffee instead.)

3. Honey Roasted Pumpkin Ravioli

If you like sweet and savory, these Honey Roasted Pumpkin Raviolis may just do the trick. Tender hunks of pumpkin are roasted and caramelized with a pumpkin spice blend paired with salty cheese. They are great served with a touch of butter and a pumpkin ale on the side.

4. Organic Maple Butter

Churned until creamy, this “butter” doesn’t include any butter at all. It’s made solely of pure organic maple syrup. An employee gushed that when spread on toasted bread, the maple butter actually crystallizes as an extra treat. We’re sold. This creamy, sweet spread is lovely on toasted bread, biscuits, muffins, pancakes, and waffles. Add a savory touch by topping with bacon or just dip salted pretzels for a snack.

5. Organic Frosted Hot Cocoa Toaster Pastries

If you’re a little pumpkin-ed out (and we won’t judge), you may want a special treat that doesn’t include the proverbial pumpkin filling, such as these decadent Organic Frosted Hot Cocoa Toaster Pastries. These pastries are made with two types of organic cocoa powder, with cocoa in the frosting, filling, and even in the dough—without any artificial flavors or preservatives. Heat up and enjoy a warm and gooey filling with the flavor rich, sweet hot cocoa. Perfect dipped in a cup of homemade hot cocoa for an extra chocolate extravaganza.

6. Fall Harvest Salsa

Spice up your snacking game with a new salsa in town: This Fall Harvest Salsa features pumpkins, tomatoes, fire-roasted tomatillos, peppers, apples, and butternut squash. This salsa is a great accompaniment to the Trader Joe’s Fall Leaf Corn Tortilla Chips, or excellent on a sandwich, with eggs, or in burritos.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t feature a prominent component to all of autumn: apple cider. This take on cider features organic cold-pressed Fuji apples, which are blended with autumn spices of clove and cinnamon, creating a refreshing and healthful chilled apple cider. You can feel good about getting your daily apple dose a day with this pressed juice with no added sugar.

If you’d prefer to eat your apple cider rather than drink it, then this may be for you. Think apple cider, but in a cookie format, which is nearly perfection. Trader Joe’s employees rave about this treat. It’s crunchy and not overly sweet, and has notes of a crisp fall freshly-picked apple from the orchard, sprinkled with a touch of autumn spices.

9. Butternut Squash Ravioli

Pumpkin doesn’t have to be the only gourd in town this fall. Butternut squash is a great go-to for seasonal eating and this Butternut Squash Ravioli is no exception. Top this fresh pasta with some butter, sage, and a sprinkling (or mountain) of parmesan cheese and you have an elegant one-dish pasta supper.

10. Maple Streusel Bread

A Trader Joe’s employee revealed at checkout that this bread is her absolute favorite fall item. Perhaps this is the toasted bread you need in your life to go alongside the glorious Maple Butter spread? Or you might find it is your favorite bread to use for fall French toast, or, like the Trader Joe’s employee I spoke with, this might become your favorite bread in the world. Period.

11. Boo Bark

Halloween will be here before we know it and, just in time, you can pick up Boo Bark. It’s a tasty and spirited take on chocolate bark, but instead of the customary almonds or peanuts as toppings, this bark is decked out in streaks of orange, brown, and white chocolate and topped with Halloween-inspired candies like witches’ eyes, candy corn, and more. This treat is perfect for kids and adults who are looking for a fun and festive dessert indulgence.
